"BUMP UP YOUR ENERGY" CHALLENGE

 

Feel More Energetic In
No Time

Have you been feeling down, drained, tired, slow, sluggish? Running out of energy earlier in the day than you used to?

 

There are many factors that can influence how we process and use (or waste) energy, such as age, health, etc. The first step, of course, is to follow up with your healthcare provider and undergo any required tests and exams. If you have already checked in with your doctor and received a clean bill of health (or are currently addressing health issues with your healthcare providers), but are still feeling drained and tired, here are a few points to consider:

 

- Stress levels: In these intense healing and transformation times, there are plenty of reasons for feeling stressed on physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and, consequently, energetic levels, such as financial concerns, health, work-related issues, relationship challenges, political climate, etc. Addressing the source of stress can help, but it’s not always possible to change circumstances (at least immediately). Finding ways to re-energize is key, whether change is possible or not.

 

As the Serenity prayer says, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." In my case, I say the following prayer: “I give this situation [or circumstance, relationship, etc] to God’s unconditional love for healing and positive solutions or resolutions, and I trust and release.” Then I take the time to connect with my inner/higher guidance to determine if action is required on my part. But that’s just meant as an example; practice the ritual or system that works best for you!

 

In relation to the current state of affairs, it’s best to avoid too much news and be selective about what you “consume” in general (read, watch, listen to, etc). Instead, focus on what brings you joy!

 

- Exercises/Mindful Practices: To bring more energy into your mind/body, try mindful practices such as Qigong, Tai Chi, Yoga, mindful walking and others. Breath work such as Pranayama (alternate nostril breathing) and meditation can also help reduce stress and increase your energy.

 

- Diet: Summer is approaching; in many areas we’re already dealing with record high temperatures and humidity levels, which tend to take a toll on our bodies. The general recommendation is to eat lighter, cooling foods (unless you are on a medical diet with specific requirements); however, it works best if you understand and work with your own specific needs. Ayurveda, a holistic medical system that focuses on restoring balance within the body, mind and spirit through a personalized approach, can help you find your dosha(s) or constitution and adjust your diet accordingly:

- Mind/body connection: Work on improving conscious communication with your body to better understand its needs. For instance, you can practice relaxing your body from head to toe and scanning it to get a feel for the areas that may require special attention, as well as how you can address those needs.

 

- Bach flower essences (or other flower essences) and essential oils: Everything is energy. Flower essences and essential oils are believed to interact with our vibrational frequencies or energy fields, providing a holistic approach to emotional, mental and physical well-being by raising our frequencies. While flower essences work primarily on an energetic level, influencing emotions, thoughts and the energy field, essential oils work both chemically (through aroma and topical application) and energetically. The vibrational frequency of most essential oils (singles) is in the hundreds; and in the thousands in flower essences (singles).

 


I effectively use essential oils (singles and blends) for many different purposes, including reducing stress and anxiety, cleansing, releasing negativity, balancing energy, relieving digestive distress, etc. I also get great results using the Bach Flower Essences Rescue Remedy during times of crisis. In addition, I use the Bach Emotional Ups & Downs flower essences set on a regular basis (Hornbeam for procrastination, Olive to restore energy and Mustard for joy).

- Play/rest time: Today people are expected to operate continuously for long periods of time like computers, which often leads to burnout. The reality is that human beings are designed to pulse between spending and renewing energy. Do you have a good balance between work and play/rest time? If not, what can you do to create more balance?

 

- Sleep: Proper rest is one of the best ways to recharge and promote healing. For better quality sleep, you can create a bedtime routine that promotes restful sleep, which may include avoiding heavy meals at night and screen time right before bed. Writing down your next-day to-do list before you go to bed also helps to get it out of your mind, making it easier to relax for the evening.

- Get your creative on! One of the most energizing things you can do is to perform activities that spark your creativity, such as writing, drawing, painting, dancing, music, cooking, baking, building projects, etc. Anything goes, from coloring books for adults to paint-by-numbers apps!

 

- Connect with others: Isolation and lack of support also are major stressors. Although a common reaction to feeling down and having low energy is to isolate yourself, the opposite is what you need the most: Quality time with your loved ones, the people in your life who care about you.

 

BUMP UP YOUR ENERGY CHALLENGE: Choose a few options above and practice them on a consistent basis for 28 days; you’re likely to start getting results in no time :)

THE PAGES THAT'LL GET YOU GOING

 

Morning (or Bedtime) Pages

As you know, I like to share info about tools that I have tried, tested and found extremely helpful. One such tool is the morning pages journaling technique (also known as brain drain or mind dump), popularized by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way.

Basically, the idea is to fill three standard-size notebook pages (in your handwriting) with whatever comes to mind when you first get up in the morning, before doing anything else. Just let it flow, without any censorship or concerns with form, grammar, punctuation, etc. Keep in mind that whatever you write is for your eyes only; so give yourself the safe space to get whiny, vent anger, blame everyone and everything else for your woes, etc. If you can’t think of enough stuff to take up three pages, just keep writing something like “I can’t think of anything to write” on the page, until something pops up (and it will).

This simple exercise helps unclutter the mind, freeing it up for more meaningful pursuits; it sparks creativity and makes it easier to find positive solutions for concerns and issues, among other benefits. Whenever I feel stuck, I only have to practice this exercise for a few days in a row to start noticing improvement on my focus, mood, energy, etc.

On a side note: For me, this exercise works better at bedtime; it allows me to let go of the stresses of the day, process challenges and find creative solutions in my sleep state, and often helps me wake up feeling energized and ready to go!

A BELATED NEW YEAR MESSAGE

I know, it’s almost March, already... But I’m feeling guided to share this belated New Year message from Love with you, simply because it’s so needed right now...

 

So here it goes:

 

Happy New Year! That means new opportunities, a fresh start. In spite of what happens in your surroundings, this will be a much better, happier year for you, and it will mark the beginning of an important new phase. Get ready, things will start getting much more interesting!

 

Nothing to fear, about your health issues; most of them are on their way out, or will become much more manageable. Your body, mind and spirit are making themselves ready!

 

Enjoy all the positive abundance coming to you; you deserve it!

 

Try to focus on the Now, rather than trying to figure out what comes next. Everything in its own time...

DEAR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE...

 

“What Would You Have Me Know Today?”

Year 2024 was challenging on a personal and professional level. Generally speaking, it was also a challenging year to be a citizen of the world, in its current state of affairs. To be fair, it was a year of fulfilling accomplishments, as well; but those came with their own challenges and created new ones. By mid-December, as the holidays approached, I caught myself feeling tired, discouraged and even a bit depressed.

As it always happens when I find myself in need of a pick-me-up, the Universe answered. On December 18 I happened to come across a Marie Forleo interview with Eat, Pray, Love’s author Elizabeth Gilbert (Wake Up & Start Living: To Anyone Feeling Lost & Unhappy In Life, Watch This To Find Meaning Before 2024 Ends | Liz Gilbert; interview by Marie Forleo; link under References). During this fascinating interview, Gilbert shared the fact that she started a blog named Letters From Love (link also under References), based on a simple exercise she’s been practicing almost every day for 20 years: Receiving messages from Love through free-writing journaling prompts such as “Dear Love, what would you have me know today?” or “Dear Love, what is your will for me today?” According to Gilbert, the messages that follow her questions feel like downloads that pour through her from a higher, loving source. They are always messages of unconditional love and support, encouragement, assistance, cheer, comfort, consolation, confidence, faith, inspiration, reassurance...

I joined the Letters From Love blog while still listening to Gilbert’s interview and decided to try this exercise that very night, at bedtime. It was a quite an uplifting experience! I’ve been doing it almost every night ever since. Apparently, the over 100,000 people who have joined Gilbert’s blog to date are practicing this exercise and also receiving loving messages. This isn’t just a practice anymore; it’s a movement.

What I found especially interesting about this exercise was the fact that Gilbert chose to address her missives to Love, rather than a specific religious or spiritual being. That choice feels right to me, considering how hard it can be to separate well-known wisdom tradition figures from the less than positive connotations invariably caused by misconceptions, misuse and overuse. On that note, I’ve been playing with different qualifiers for the word “Love,” such as Unconditional (as this blog title), True, Truest and Universal, to name a few; but I seem to arrive at the same results as when I just write “Dear Love.” In short, the key word is Love; Love is all that matters; it’s all about Love; all we need is Love...

Some of the messages I’ve received during this exercise:

“Relax into your life; accept that certain things take time to blossom, to be ready for the next step or the next phase. There’s no hurry. Enjoy. Just purely enjoy, without guilt, without shame.”

“Think love, speak love, feel love, act in love. Your life will transform entirely with this simple practice.”

“Never fear; you are healing; you are loved and protected, and you’re never alone!”

“Try to not spend time and energy with catastrophic doomsday scenarios and imaginings. Whenever that starts to happen, replace those thoughts with the word “Love,” and we will be there with you, bringing you back to the Light, helping you reconnect with your own Light.”

[I have actually been following this particular advice with amazing results! Several times, when I was getting lost in negative thinking, I stopped myself and brought the word “Love” to mind. My mind was instantly flooded with beautiful, loving, humorous, happy images and memories, such as nature snapshots (blooming flowers or breath-taking sunsets), joyful moments with loved ones, uplifting or funny movie scenes, etc. I also tried this exercise right after having a fight with my husband and was overtaken with memories of some of the countless loving and joyful moments we’ve had together...]

I’m sure everyone has experienced hearing a loving voice in their head, sharing wisdom; a voice that didn’t feel like their own. Do these messages come from higher, loving sources or are we just tapping into our own subconscious mind for much needed self-validation? Or is it perhaps both; sort of a co-creating dance with the Universal Love Source? To me, the real question is: Does it really matter, as long as the end results are so positive and uplifting? But don’t take my word for it; give it a try and see for yourself.

WHY PLATITUDES STILL WORK

 

Have You Heard Or Used Platitudes Lately?

We have all been in situations when all we could think to say was considered a platitude, those kinds of sayings that have been used too often to be considered meaningful, thoughtful or interesting...

Well, there’s a reason why that happens: Platitudes still work, in spite of ourselves. These expressions serve as reminders of widely acknowledged truths; they not only convey thoughts and feelings that hit the spot when we most need it (again and again), but also carry within their words the cumulative energetic charge of the countless times they are repeated with good intention.

So, here are some platitudes to carry you through your week:

Remember your “why!”

No one can do what you do the way you do it!

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

You don’t serve anyone by keeping yourself small.

The Universe has your back!

Focus on progress and results, rather than perfection.

Failure paves the road to success.

There are no failures; there’s merely another opportunity to choose.

Everything is pushing you to your higher purpose.
